Hey everyone! Welcome back to The Coop with Meyer Hatchery – where we talk all things poultry in hopes of inspiring crazy chicken keepers and educating future flock owners. Each week we like to take a Meyer Moment to cover relevant happenings.
Let’s take a Meyer Moment to talk about the Meyer Hatchery Virtual Poultry Show! With local fairs being altered or completely canceled this year, we want to encourage our youth to continue to learn and grow in their poultry keeping. So we decided to hold a virtual poultry show for the months of July, August, and September.
You can compete in the exhibition or market class with your chicken, turkey, duck or goose breed. Pick the month you would typically participate in your local fair and submit 1 photo showing the side of your bird making sure the head, body, legs, and feet are visible.
Throughout each month, fans can vote for their favorite bird. The top 5 fan favorites from each class, will then go to Ohio National Poultry Show, Superintendent, Mike Stichler for review. He’ll pick 1 Grand Champion and 1 Reserve Champion from each class, every month. Winners will receive a special prize pack from Meyer Hatchery!
Photos submitted to the virtual poultry show, will not be used on our website or catalog, but winning photos will be displayed on our blog and social media.
Curious what judges are looking for? We’ve had the opportunity to chat with Mike Stichler from the Ohio National Poultry Show, where he shared great tips for any level participant. We also recently chatted with our co-worker Amanda, who’s kids have been showing in 4-H for several years. She also provides great tips to help parents and children begin their 4-H experience. Check out our recent episodes, regarding showing poultry linked below.
Find all of our best tips for showing over on our blog as we’ve curated the ultimate Poultry Showing Resouce with links to our most relevant podcast episodes, blog posts, YouTube videos and showing products.
We hope to see your entries, in the first-ever Meyer Hatchery Virtual Poultry Show. Complete rules and entry information can be found in the show notes below. And that’s your weekly Moment with Meyer.
Enjoy the rest of your week and as always thank you for listening!
