by | Apr 27, 2021 | Meyer Moment

Let’s take a Meyer Moment to talk about favorite chicken names. Some pets seem to easily earn their name, by showcasing their personality and other times we need some inspiration. Naming pets goes as far back as ancient times. Revered dogs can be found in ancient mythology and early Egyptians believed cats had magical powers. Let’s take a Meyer Moment to talk about favorite chicken names. Some pets seem to easily earn their name, by showcasing their personality, and other times we need some inspiration. Naming pets goes as far back as ancient times. Revered dogs can be found in ancient mythology and early Egyptians believed cats had magical powers. Domestic chickens go as far back as 2000 BC, so it is pretty safe to assume that chickens have earned pet names since then.

Chickens are natural flock animals, so names with a theme are a popular choice! Chicken keepers are creative folks and some of our favorite themes, borrow from pop culture, nature, and food. As pets form strong emotional connections with their caretakers, some owners even choose to confer their pets with human names.

If you have a duo of inseparable chickens within your flock, consider honoring these famous pairs: Lucy & Ethel, Sugar & Spice, or Peanut Butter & Jelly. If you have a favorite vacation spot or sentimental ties to a certain place perhaps names like Alaska, Paris, or Brooklyn would fit your flock. The pet that makes breakfast certainly fits with names such as Omlet, Nugget, or Quiche.

Some top choices for pop culture themes are celebrities, cartoons, or movie characters. The beauty of nature provides awesome inspiration for your flock. Flower names, tree types, and famous national landmarks are sure to add a spark to your flock. As many ways as there are to prepare eggs and chicken dishes, there are a plethora of clever chicken names.

Chicken math may affect the naming trends of your flock. It seems natural to name the first members of your flock. If you raise them from chicks, their personalities start to shine through early on. But as a flock grows, it can be cumbersome to keep names straight. Soon you’ll find only the very favorites and easily distinguished get named!

Our creative listeners shared some of the names from their own flock. Beautiful coloring earned Pearlie Mae her name. Goldie and Sprinkles are a dynamic duo with sweet personalities. Since the day he hatched, Panic the rooster would run when anyone would get close to him.

The home of your flock deserves some recognition as well. We are partial to keeping it simple. The Coop has a nice ring to it! Some other creative chicken home names to consider Biddy City, Cluckingham Palace, The Egg Factory, Henway Park, Chick-Mahal, or Fort Clucks.

We hope you enjoyed this Meyer Moment about favorite chicken names. Remember to always keep it fun as you add your own creativity and personality to your flock and their home.
